PAWS Teen Camp Personal Awareness & Wilderness Skills Ages 11-16 Session 3C: July 5-9 Personal Awareness and Wilderness Skills. Knowing thyself, knowing thy place.
This program for 11-16 year olds is one of facilitated inner growth through survival living, nature awareness, and inner and outer reflection.
“Simplicity in all things is the secret of the wilderness and one of its most valuable lessons. It is what we leave behind that is important. The matter of simplicity goes further than just food, equipment and unnecessary gadgets; it goes into the matter of thoughts and objectives as well. When in the wilds, we must not carry our problems with us or the joy is lost.” –Sigurd Olsen
Coyote Road staff will provide participants with the opportunity to have direct contact with their local environment so that they may experience a basic understanding of their own needs and how nature can meet those needs.
Monday and Tuesday are day programs. Wednesday through Friday are day and night programs.
Program goals: Be able to start and maintain a fire Sleep outside for 2 nights Make use of naturally made cordage Make and refine a self-made shelter Construct a basket or bag Identify 10 plant types and uses Demonstrate a caretaker/steward attitude
