Dave Wilson, founder |

Dave was graduated from Cal Poly in 1992 with a BS in Mechanical Engineering. Being somewhat unsatisfied as an engineering graduate in a tough market, he took a break and entered the field of outdoor education. It was at this time that he was introduced to the books and earth philosophy of Tom Brown, Jr. Dave began his training with Tom in 1993 and has taken many classes and workshops on tracking, nature awareness, survival, and earth philosophy. He is also a |

Kamana student and a graduate of Jon Young’s Art of Mentoring programs. Dave has been active in outdoor education since entering the field in 1994. He started working with the Boojum Institute for Experiential Education as an instructor, and worked with junior high and high school kids from the greater LA and San Diego areas. He later became a naturalist for a residential science camp, the Web of Life Field School, in 1996 and worked his way to being site director at the Monte Toyon campus in Aptos, California. After moving back to the San Luis Obispo area to be closer to his then fiancé, Jennifer Rennick, Dave developed a popular summer camp teaching outdoor skills and nature awareness through the San Luis Obispo Adult School. His love and deep connection to nature prompted him to develop a vehicle to share it with children that has become Coyote Regional Outdoor Adventures, now known as Coyote Road School. He is also substitute teacher for the Atascadero and Templeton districts and has been in many classrooms at all grade levels. He is also currently working toward his single subject credential in Mathematics. He plays guitar and sings in an acoustic folk-rock band called the Paisanos (www.thepaisanosband.com). He teaches guitar lessons and tutors math and science afterschool and in the evenings. He has been married since 1998 to Jennifer Rennick, and they have 2 beautiful children. Jennifer is an architect who specializes in straw-bale construction and design and is a certified energy analyst to boot. |
